The Cuban state-owned operator ETECSA announced that from December 6, subscribers will be able to use the mobile Internet using 3G technology.
Subscribers will be connected gradually. First, the subscriber will receive an SMS confirming the connection of the mobile Internet package and will receive access to the network until December 8.
The cost of the new service will be about 10 cents for 1 megabyte without a prepaid package, but the subscriber can purchase a traffic package for 30 days at the following prices:
- 600 megabytes — 7 dollars
- 2.5 gigabytes — $ 20
- 4 gigabytes — 30 dollars
The average salary in Cuba is about $30 per month.
Previously, residents of the “Island of Freedom” had the opportunity to access the Internet only at Internet cafes for $4.5 per hour or specially equipped places where Wi-Fi access points are available for $1 per hour (while the transfer rate did not exceed 1 mbps)
